Obituary

Johnny "John" Franklin, age 80, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2022 at Gracemore Nursing and Rehab Facility. John was born in west Texas in 1942 on his father's birthday. He was the second son born to the late Boyd and Dortha Franklin. The family moved through the southwest and he graduated from Farmington High School (Farmington, New Mexico) in 1961. Some of his most favorite memories were of after high school selling Bibles door to door in the South. He served in the Air Force from 1963-1967. After his service, he worked in the oil fields of New Mexico, Nevada, and Montana and at a pipe factory in Coshocton, Ohio. He eventually settled down in Columbus, Ohio where he was owner of Tremont Dental Lab. He moved south to Jekyll Island, Georgia to be closer to his daughter in 1990 and worked for Carl Gregory Auto Sales. He never passed up a Willie's pork chop sandwich. Always being the devoted son, he eventually moved to Albuquerque to care for his aging parents and enjoyed becoming a member of Netherwood Church of Christ. He moved back to Jekyll Island in 2020 to be closer to his grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his beloved parents Boyd and Dortha, grandparents John and Bessie Franklin, brother in law Bob Phelps and niece Tammy Franklin. He is survived by his favorite daughter Nettie Franklin Alexander,

son in law Walter and grandchildren Eli and Eliza. He is also survived by brother/sister in law Rex and Janet Franklin of Syracuse, NY; sister Cindy Phelps of Albuquerque, NM; brother/sister in law Ben and Linda Franklin of Flora Vista, NM; nieces and nephews: Kim (Jerry) DeRuby, Tobe (Leanne) Phelps, Tyne Phelps, Selena Hughes, Tara Hacsi, Krystle (Ryan) Antonelli, Larkin Trosper-Phelps, and Courtney (Cooper) Phelps-Poole; several great nieces and nephews; Nettie's mother Ginny Darling; and favorite dog Daisy.

No services are planned at this time. John's ashes will be carried by his daughter and family as they continue their travels around the world so that he may visit all the places he always wanted to see.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to everyone at Gracemore Nursing and Rehab Facility, Hospice of the Golden Isles, Dr. Davis Reames and staff of Neurological Institute of Savannah, Wright Culpepper and to the many friends who have supported the family during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family would like any donations in his memory be given to Hospice of the Golden Isles, Netherwood Church of Christ (Albuquerque), or a charity of their choice.

Cremation services were provided by Golden Isles Cremation Center/Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home.
