Kay Hardy Sutton of St. Simons Island was born in Byron, Georgia and raised in Macon, Georgia. She was a graduate of Miller High School for Girls and married the love of her life, James (Jim) Sutton, also of Macon. While Jim was attending Tech in Atlanta, studying architecture, Kay worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and specialized in opening new branches throughout the state. During this time, she was very active in coordinating fundraising for Easter Seals via The March of Dimes. She was PTA president for several years at St. Simons Elementary School while her sons attended. She was a pioneer in the area on health and fitness, teaching classes for many years and was also a very busy massage therapist. She and her husband enjoyed boating and in later years spent many hours working on their son's horse farm. She had a very strong love of St. Simons and the Golden Isles. Kay is preceded in death by her husband Jim and a son Chris. Her legacy lives on through her sons Chan and Neil (Stephanie) and leaves behind four grandsons: Chancellor Gill; Christian, Greyson and Gage. She fought a long battle with Parkinson's disease for over a decade. Memorial Services will be Saturday, September 14th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Simons United Methodist Church, with David Yarborough officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Donna Reddick, Angel Dickerson, Marjorie Lawrence, Gordene Middlebrooks and Kurt Burkhalter. Donations in her name may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles.
