Kurt Douglas
Joseph

Community Church - St. Simons Island
4:00 - 5:00 pm (Eastern time)
Kurt Douglas Joseph, 62, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home in Brunswick with his loving family by his side on June 4, 2026. Born on March 27, 1964, in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, Kurt lived a life defined by faith, family, perseverance, and a genuine love for people.
Raised in the Pittsburgh area, Kurt developed a passion for fitness and athletics at an early age. He attended Bethany College on a football scholarship and later wrestled on scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh. His competitive spirit and dedication to physical fitness continued well beyond his college years, leading him into bodybuilding, where he competed throughout his late twenties and early thirties. Kurt placed in the Top 5 of the Mr. Pittsburgh NPC Bodybuilding Championship in both 1988 and 1990. His commitment to health and fitness became a lifelong passion, and he was always eager to encourage others to pursue healthier, stronger lives.
Throughout his career, Kurt excelled in sales and relationship-building. Whether working in telecommunications, automotive sales, digital marketing, or serving as an Operations Manager for Star Transportation Medical Transport, affiliated with Hospice of the Golden Isles, he had a unique ability to connect with people and make a lasting impression. He never met a stranger and was often the person others turned to for advice, encouragement, and perspective.
More than any professional accomplishment, Kurt was most proud of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved. He was known for his wisdom, unwavering faith, and ability to find hope in difficult circumstances. His favorite sayings, “You can let the bird land on your head, but don’t let it build a nest,” and “Remember, don’t do anything stupid,” brought both laughter and life lessons to those fortunate enough to know him.
A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Kurt enjoyed football, fitness, meaningful conversations, and sharing his faith with others. He was an active member of St. Simons Community Church, where he faithfully served as a greeter for many years. Kurt’s warm smile, welcoming spirit, and genuine interest in people made him a familiar and beloved presence within the church community.
Above all, Kurt’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. Through every season, he sought to encourage others, point them toward God, and remind them that no challenge was too great to face with faith. His legacy of strength, wisdom, kindness, and perseverance will continue to live on through the countless lives he impacted.
Kurt is survived by his loving wife, Nichole Mastrogiovanni Joseph; his children, Preston Joseph, Sydney Smith, Cameron Joseph, RJ Zow, and James Smith; and his grandsons, Kody Smith, Bellamy Smith, and Huxley Smith.
He is also survived by six siblings: sisters Sharie Wallace of Medina, Ohio, and Kathy Kerber and her husband, Joseph Kerber, of Herminie, Pennsylvania; brothers John Joseph Jr. of Youngwood, Pennsylvania, Steve Joseph and his wife, Karen, of Sarver, Pennsylvania, Chris Joseph and his wife, Kimberly, of North Fayette, Pennsylvania, and Mitchell Joseph and his wife, Carrie, also of North Fayette, Pennsylvania.
Though Kurt’s earthly journey has ended, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is home with his Savior, whom he faithfully followed throughout his life.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
