IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry E.
Bowman
August 11, 1954 – December 20, 2022
Larry Edward Bowman, devoted husband and loving father, died at home at the age of 68, on December 20, 2022, in St. Simons Island, GA. Born August 11, 1954, to Jack Sidney Bowman and Jo Anna Hall Bowman in Knoxville, TN, Larry was the youngest child with two sisters, Linda Dunagan and Janice Perry.
After graduating from Louisville Southern High School, Larry attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Business and was a walk-on football player for the UT Vols (Go Big Orange). After college, Larry began a successful career and was a fixture in the greater Atlanta building industry for over 30 years.
An adventurous outdoorsman, Larry enjoyed fishing, skiing, and hunting, traveling everywhere from the Amazon rainforest to Aspen to Australia. An avid golfer, Larry was a long-time member of the Atlanta Athletic Club and played 53 of the world's top 100 golf courses, enjoying Oakmont, Royal County Down, and Pine Valley the most.
A man who once paid his library late fees with a one hundred dollar bill and asked if they could keep the rest as a credit for future fines, there wasn't a Lee Child or Nelson DeMille novel he hadn't read. Larry also enjoyed good conversation over cards on the porch with a Scotch and watching action movies from his recliner.
Friends and family will remember him as a gifted storyteller and jokester with a knack for exaggeration and a sharp wit. Full of determination and grit, Larry was a secret ingredient that made every activity a special event. A man who never stopped living, he was always willing to place a wager on the game, always ready to share a laugh, and always ready to roll up his sleeves and work hard.
He is remembered by his wife, Sharon Bowman; his children and step-children, Andie Hixson (Craig), Paige Bowman, Jordan Budd, and Townshend Budd; and his sisters, Linda Dunagan (Micheal) and Janice Perry (Reed), his nephews Stephen Dunagan (Heidi), Ryan Perry (Emily), the members of the Big Bear Hunting Club, and a loyal group of friends.
Join the family on January 14, 2023, 2:00pm, at the Atlanta Athletic Club for a loving tribute to a man who made all our lives richer for having known him.
