Larry G. Main, 48, of Brunswick, passed away unexpectedly Monday at his residence. He was a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and had previously resided on Long Island, NY and has been a resident of Brunswick since 1987. For thirty years he served his nation as a member of the Georgia Air National Guard holding the rank of Master Sergeant with the 224 th Joint Communications Support Squadron of the Georgia Air National Guard. Msgt. Main served several tours of duty overseas; most recently in Afghanistan. He received numerous awards and citations during his many years of service. He was actively involved with the Air National Guard Family Support Group; an organization that provides support and assistance to the families of deployed service members. He is survived by his two children, Jean Lillian Main and Robert Thomas Main, both of Brunswick; his father, Lyle Burk Main of Portage, Michigan; one sister, Loucinda Main of Medina, Ohio; four brothers, Daniel Lee Main, of LaGrange, Georgia; Lloyd Thomas Main of Portage, Michigan; Ronald Lewis Main of Plainwell, Michigan, and James Andrew Main of Battle Creek, Michigan. Msgt. Main also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; his fiancé, Peggy K. McGarry of Brunswick and his former spouse, Gina T. Griffin, also of Brunswick. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian May (Brown) Main, and brother, Stephen Burk Main. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday morning at 11 am in the Chapel of the Funeral Home with Father Cletus Phiefer and Reverend Earl Lamey officiating. Members of his unit of the Georgia Air National Guard will serve as honorary pallbearers. A memorial service honoring Msgt. Main in Kalamazoo, Michigan will be held at a later date. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Air National Guard Family Support Group at 1693 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home.
