Lawrence Dwayne Dawson, 81, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Harborview Satilla after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born and raised in Wick (Tyler County), WV, he was the youngest of fourteen children born to George and Stella Lewis Dawson.
A veteran of the United States Army, Lawrence served in Vietnam and received an honorable discharge after 10 years of service. A truck driver by trade, he drove for Seaboard Construction for over twenty years until his retirement. He was of the baptist faith his whole life, but he and his wife, Sallie, also enjoyed attending services with friends at Church of God of Prophecy.
Lawrence loved listening to gospel music and had an impressive collection of gospel tapes. He enjoyed watching Gaither Homecoming on TV, fishing, keeping up with the news, and discussing politics. A spirited political debater, Lawrence was, above all, a good man and a devoted husband.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twelve siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sallie Dawson; children, Lawrence “Larry” Dawson, Jr., Susan Dawson, Nathan Dawson, and Zolanna “Zoe” Dawson; stepchildren, Liz Millican and Pam Crosby; sister, Norma Jean Martin; special niece, Madelene Doll; several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11 am, followed by the funeral at 12 pm. Burial will be in Chapel Park Cemetery.
Lawrence’s family wishes to acknowledge the Glynn County Parkinson’s Support Group, Dr Jimmerson and the staff at Brunswick VA Clinic, Satilla Memorial Hospital, Harborview Satilla Nursing Home, and Satilla Hospice for the exceptional care and support they provided to Lawrence and his family throughout this journey.
Memorial donations to Glynn County Parkinson’s Support Group would be appreciated.
Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
