Obituary

Lewis Calvin Hinson, 79, of Brunswick, went to live with his Lord and Savior on July 27, 2015, from Hospice of the Golden Isles. Born on Aug. 9, 1935, he was the third son of Benny and Essie Lee Hinson of Greenville, Ala. After graduating from Greenville (Ala.) High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served stateside from 1954 - 1957. Upon his discharge, he was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for Caterpillar dealerships in Mobile and Montgomery, Ala. He retired in 2000, as service manager from Carlton Company in Brunswick. Upon retiring, Calvin was self employed as a consultant to Glynn General Insurance on St. Simons Island. He met and married his wife of 30 years, Susan, in 1984, and they moved to Brunswick in 1987 with her two young daughters. Calvin's hobbies included woodworking, repairing anything mechanical, planting a summer garden, watching the Alabama Crimson Tide football games and playing fetch with his faithful sidekick, Tag-a-long, a dog he rescued as a puppy. Calvin was an active member of Glyndale Baptist Church where he was in the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class, sang bass in the adult choir and served on numerous church committees. He was also a proud 50 year member of the Oak Park Lodge F. & A.M. in Montgomery, Ala. Survivors include his wife, Susan; and his children, Sophie Presley (Alan) of Perdido, Ala., Molly Orozco (Tony) and Katie Baker (fiancé, Ben Taylor), all of Brunswick; two brothers, Phillip Hinson (Carolyn), of Millbrook, Ala. and Billy Hinson (Joan), of Wilsonville, Ala.; a sister, Jackie Stewart (Bill), of Deatsville, Ala.; grandchildren, Michelle Gafford (Michael) and Brandon Hinson of Greenville, Ala., and Eric, Alyssa, and Amber Orozco of Brunswick. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home with Associate Pastor Ben Campbell officiating. A private inurnment is planned at Chapel Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525 or to the TWG Building Expansion Fund, c/o Glyndale Baptist Church, 132 Butler Drive, Brunswick, GA 31523.
