Obituary

CHAMBERLAIN-Linda (nee Preston), of Brunswick, Ga., passed away peacefully on August 10 with her husband by her side. She was 73. Linda received her high school diploma from Glynn Academy in 1962 and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in mathematics from Agnes Scott College in 1966. She spent most of her career teaching math at Daphne Middle and High Schools in Daphne, Alabama. Linda and her then husband, Joseph Earl Watts (deceased), made their home in Fairhope, Alabama for 23 years before moving to Brunswick, Ga., and then to Round Lake, Ill., to be near their daughter and her family. After remarrying, she moved back to Brunswick in 2017 to be near her longtime friends and classmates. Linda was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope and Wildwood Presbyterian Church in Grayslake, Ill. A woman of deep faith, she loved traveling with her family, and enjoyed some wonderful trips to the western U.S. and Canada and the United Kingdom. Her children were a great source of joy and pride for Linda. She was also very proud of her grandchildren, who called her "Gammy," and spent many hours babysitting and attending their school and sporting events. She also devoted many hours to her church and was a Presbyterian deacon and elder. Survivors include her husband, Monte Chamberlain of Metamora, Ill.; son, Preston Earl Watts of Birmingham; daughter, Shannon Watts Sweetnam (William) of Lake Forest, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Will, Foster and Owen Sweetnam, Laurel Connelly and Patrick Watts. Visitation will be held at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, August 16, and funeral service at Brunswick Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 with the Rev. Chris Noyes and Rev. Russell Gladding officiating. The family requests memorial contributions to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, Georgia in honor of her lifetime love of animals. Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
