Lola "Laverne" Medders, age 91, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Sunabella at Savannah in Savannah, Georgia.

Laverne was born April 13, 1932, in Thomaston, Georgia, a daughter of the late David and Reva Carter Gassett. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Woolworths and Belk's department stores for many years before retirement. She enjoyed working in her yard and growing a colorful assortment of flowers but there was absolutely nothing she loved more than to have her children and grandchildren around her simply spending time and enjoying each other.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Quentine H. Medders and two brothers, Eugene Gassett and Bobby Gassett.

Left to cherish her memory are five daughters, Martha Hodges (Clinton), Diane Davis, Elaine Kniphfer (Eddie), Sandra Gail Nooning, and Melissa Kniphfer (Waring); six grandchildren, Rodney Flatman Jr. (Michelle), Christopher Young (Felicia), Kimberly Patterson (Kevin), Annette Kniphfer, Eddie Kniphfer III., and Matthew Davis; thirteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Gassett Wendland; and a host of others who adore her.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 14th, 2023, from 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM with the Funeral Service to begin at 11:30 AM at Bible Baptist Church 4700 Skidaway Rd, Savannah, GA 31404 with Pastor Tommy East officiating. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West 1336 Dean Forest Rd, Savannah, GA 31405.
