Louis Michael Novak, 91, died Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Hospice of the Golden Isles, after a short illness.
Louis was born on April 24, 1926, in Hammond, LA to Charles and Helen Novak. He was raised in a Hungarian home where he was the oldest of 4 children. Louis attended Catholic school and was an Alter Boy in the Catholic church. Later he met and married the love of his life, his wife, Frances Lorraine Harris. They shared their lives together for almost 67 years. Together they raised three children, Julia Novak Smith (Richard Smith,) Frances Novak-Branch, and Louis Wayne Novak (Sandy Novak.) He enjoyed his five grandchildren (Jason Smith, Adrien Kiff, Arien Phillips, Matthew Novak, and Alyse Novak.) Louis was also blessed with four great grandchildren (Madison Phillips, Skylar Smith, Maclaine Kiff, and Avery Smith.)
In 1947, Louis joined the Boilermakers Union in Tampa, Florida where he worked in the shipyard for several years. He became the Assistant Business Agent of the Boilermakers Union in Florida in 1966. In 1972, he was elected to Business Agent and served in this capacity until 1978. At this time, he became an International Representative for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. He remained in this position until retirement on December 31, 1993.
Louis and his wife, Frances enjoyed travelling in many states and several countries. They enjoyed spending time on their boat fishing or just cruising. Louis was very talented and creative in working with his hands in carpentry and mechanics. He enjoyed landscaping and gardening and shared his bounty of fruits and vegetables with family and friends.
Louis Michael Novak was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Teresa Diffee.
A visitation will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 with the funeral service to begin at 12:00 p.m. at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
