IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Louise Jersak
Galloway
September 14, 1921 – December 3, 2023
Dr. Louise Pappe Jersak Galloway was born on September 14, 1921, to Rev. and Mrs. William Jersak in Kingfisher, OK. She attended school there and graduated from high school in 1938. She went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma in 1941 and attended Tulane University Medical School, where she graduated in 1944, one of only seven women in her class. She interned in San Francisco and Boston, and completed a residency in Anesthesiology in Memphis, TN. She married Dr. Benjamin Thomas Galloway, a general surgeon, in 1946, and they began their medical careers in Asheville, NC. She moved to Brunswick, GA in 1964, and practiced Anesthesiology at Glynn-Brunswick Memorial Hospital until her retirement in January 1991. After her retirement, Dr. Galloway devoted herself to volunteer service as a counselor at Care Net Pregnancy Center, and at Loaves and Fishes, the food and clothing ministry of her Church, Christian Renewal, where she was a charter member and remained active for 44 years. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Knox Galloway of Jacksonville FL, and is survived by her children, Richard Holt Galloway of Savannah GA, and Mary Ann (Steven) Heddon of Valdosta GA, four grandsons (Dr. Christopher Heddon of Chicago, Ben [Sarah] Heddon of Valdosta GA, Kyle [Megan] Heddon of Atlanta, and Steve Heddon of Portland OR), and four grandchildren (Brady, Finn, Rowan, and Pearl). She was an amazing woman, devoted to God, and always content in whatever circumstances she found herself. Her glass wasn't half-full – it was always full, even when it was empty. Every visit, every holiday was the best one yet. She was relentlessly optimistic and grateful for her many blessings. She was generous to her church, many charities, friends, family, and strangers. She preferred a simple life for herself. Although she practiced medicine for almost 50 years, she didn't put much stock in conventional treatments. She preferred natural remedies and amassed an impressive collection of largely unopened herbal concoctions. She lived independently in the home she loved until she was 100 years old. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CareNet Pregnancy Center or Loaves and Fishes.
May the Lord support us all the day long until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over and our work here is done. Then may God in His mercy grant us a safe lodging and a holy rest and peace at last. Amen
