Obituary

Mabel Louise Williams Griffin was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. Her father and brother established George Williams & Sons Funeral Home, which her beloved brother, George Campbell Williams successfully operated until his death. Mabel, a beautiful and popular student was also known as "Skipper". She attended West Virginia State University where she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Mabel was an active member of the Brunswick Alumni Chapter of AKA. She served as president and was a dedicated member until her health declined. She was formerly married to Dr. David Griffin and lived in Thomasville, GA and Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. After moving to Brunswick, Mabel was employed by Glynn Brunswick Memorial Hospital. She had a long career at Glynn Brunswick and enjoyed the wonderful friends she made there. Mabel transitioned the evening of November 11, 2016 after a long illness. She is preceded in death by her parents; her infant son and daughter, Joseph and Marion Griffin; her brother, George and sister in law, Celeste; and her beloved niece, Pamela Williams, MD., executive Vice Dean of Meharry Medical College. She will be missed by her dear friends. A special thank you is extended to Mr. Clyde and Kathleen Williams, a loyal roommate, Wilma Warr, her step daughter, Cheryl Griffin Cash, and her special angel, Brenda Green.
