Martin (Marty) Andrew Evensen III, 71, a longtime resident of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. Born on September 4, 1941 in Mineola, NY, his parents were Harriet Elizabeth (Buckman) Holmes, of Boynton Beach, Florida and the late Martin Andrew Evensen Jr.
Marty was raised in the town of Floral Park, NY and graduated from Semanhaka High School in 1959. He attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, joined the ROTC and played center-field for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons baseball team. Marty joined the Air Force in 1963, where he was a Red-Rope Air Force Academy Graduate and went on to be stationed at Turner Field Air Base in Albany, Georgia, headquarters of the 484th Bomber Wing, SAC. He received an Honorable Discharge from regular service in 1967 but remained in the Air Force Reserve where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was Honorably Discharged in 1969. While still in the Air Force Reserve, Marty attended Police Academy in 1968 at Albany State University and went on to pursue a career in Law Enforcement that spanned over three decades and included service in the Moultrie, Albany, Nahunta and Brunswick, Georgia Police Departments. Marty left the police force to continue his law enforcement career as a Security Officer.
Marty is survived by his Mother, Elizabeth, two younger brothers and their spouses, Robert and Elsie Evensen of Berwick, Pa., Donald and Kathy Sue Evensen of West Sand Lake, NY, his first wife, Linda Norman of Atlanta, his son, Martin Andrew Evensen IV (Andy) and wife Laura Evensen of Dawson, Ga., his second wife, Hattie (Wilson) Evensen of Brunswick, Ga., a special friend, Genevieve Cate of Brunswick, Ga., and a Niece, two Nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, (January 19, 2013) at 11:00 A.M. at the Graveside of Brunswick Memorial Park Mausoleum with Chris Thorpe Officiating. Prior to the service, Family will receive friends and relatives at 10:30A.M. In lieu of flowers, Marty's family requests that donations be made in his memory to Hospice of Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Ga. 31525.
