At the age of 83, Mary Jo Hamilton ran into the arms of her Lord and Savior. She was surrounded by family and will be greatly missed. She was a loving wife, mother, memaw, aunt, and friend to so many. Mary Jo was born in Alma, Georgia, to Levy and Lettie Douglas. A graduate of Bacon County High School and faithful member of Glyndale Baptist Church, she took pride in teaching Sunday School, visiting and cooking for the elderly and sick, and spreading the good news of Jesus. A wonderful home keeper and cook, her home always looked like a "model home" and she made the best sweet cream pound cake there was. After retiring from Glynn County, she devoted her time to others. She met her sweetheart at a church social and they married in June of 1955. They were true soul mates; always loving and holding hands. They taught all of their children and grandkids the meaning of true love and "…'til death do us part." They have taught us that through it all, "Love remains." Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Levy and Lettie Douglas; her brother, Hubert Douglas; and her three sisters, Hazel Rigdon, Mozell Mercer, and Lucille Carter Jones. Surviving are her husband of almost 66 years, Pete Hamilton of Brunswick; daughter, Susan Floyd (Tony) of Waycross; son, Douglas Hamilton (Paula) of Brunswick; daughters, Georgie Futch (Jerry) of Brunswick and Denise Fields (Mike) of Brunswick; grandchildren - who lovingly called her "Memaw" - Ben Floyd, Jeremy Floyd, Chris Futch, Brent Rowell, Alicia Curles, Kalee Strickland, Dani Stoddard, and Levi Futch; as well as 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, April 15, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Glyndale Baptist Church. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM with Reverend Ken Creekmore and Reverend DeWayne Tanner. officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Park Cemetery. Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is honored to handle the arrangements.
