Obituary

Mary Williams Hartford, 84, of St. Simons Island, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on June12, 2017. She loved being a mom, a grandmother, and a teacher during her lifetime. Most of all, she loved her Lord Jesus Christ, and served Him with her whole heart. She was born on December 8, 1932 in Savannah Georgia, to Clarence and Dorothy Williams. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1951 where she was crowned Miss Savannah High. In 1955 she graduated from Montreat College with a degree in Christian Education. Her love for children led her to a career in preschool education that lasted for 27 years. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Williams, and her husband Charles Landon Hartford all of Savannah, Georgia. She is survived by her children, Mark Landon Hartford (Beth Ann) of Spartanburg, SC, Dorothy Hartford Barrow (Billy) of St. Simons Island, and Mary Catherine Hendrix (Todd) of St. Simons Island; one sister, Judy Williams Halpin (Lawrence) of Naples, Florida; eight grandchildren, Dorothy Christine Bumgartner (Eric) of St. Simons Island, Matthew James Barrow (Gabby) of Newnan, Georgia, Sarah Elizabeth Hartford of Atlanta Georgia, Anna Harper Johnson(David James) of Houston, Texas, Grace Adele Hartford of Charlotte, NC, William Landon Barrow, Mary Caroline Hendrix, and Andrew Landon Hendrix, all of St. Simons Island. Her children and her grandchildren were a great joy to her, and she loved sowing words of wisdom and truth into each of their lives. Mary was an original member of Saint Simons Community Church, which she dearly loved, and was active for many years in Tiny Town, the quilting ministry, and her home group. The memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 15 at St. Simons Community Church. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Remedy Project in care of the Mary Williams Hartford Endowment Fund. The Remedy Project P.O. Box 20341 St. Simons Island, Ga 31522
