Obituary

Mary Seigler Jackson, 98, of St. Simons Island died Monday, May 30, 2011 at the Cottage of Magnolia Manor. Mrs. Jackson was born on December 16, 1912 in Manchester, Georgia to Addie Sistrunk Seigler and Samuel Henry Seigler. She graduated from high school in Geneva, GA, in 1927 at the age of 15. She graduated from Georgia Normal College (now Georgia Southern) in 1929, at the age of 17. She also attended Duke, Georgia, and Appalachian State. After graduation she went to work teaching school for Henry Ford in Richmond Hill, Georgia. Mrs. Jackson moved to Brunswick during World War II and started teaching in the Glynn County School System. She taught for over 30 years at St. Simons Elementary. She obtained a second degree at Georgia Southern and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She also worked in the early 1940's for Georgia Rehab. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.Survivors include two children, Gary Jackson of Greensboro, Georgia and Clifford Jackson (wife Mary) of Brunswick; four grandchildren, Keith Jackson (wife, Krista) of Milton, Florida, Craig Jackson of Atlanta; Victoria Jackson of Atlanta, and Melissa Gazaway (husband, Sean) of Cumming; three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Tyler and Joshua.
