Maydwelle Coleman Grimsley, 97, of Brunswick, GA, passed away on November 12, 2018.
May grew up in Gordonsville, VA. She married Lt. Col. David James (Jim) Coleman, Jr. from Culpeper, VA and they had two children. She was devoted to her church and sustained a faith journey that heartened the lives of many. A member of St Michaels Episcopal church in Raleigh for 50 years, she served as President of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina Woman of the Church, implemented the Stephens Ministry, taught courses on grief, and loved the Cursillo movement. May loved to dance, sing, paint, and garden. Her generosity and grace impacted the lives of others with her strong faith and positive attitude. She celebrated life in the face of adversity, while maintaining her wit and sense of humor.
After 44 years of marriage, Jim passed away in 1987. May married Judge W. Harris Grimsley from Alexandria, VA, who passed away in 1994. She is also predeceased by two sisters.
While living at Springmoor Retirement Center for 13 years, she made many friends and was instrumental in organizing and participating in community activities. She moved to Brunswick, GA in 2013 to be near her family, and lived at Benton House Assisted Living.
Surviving May are her daughter Nancy Talley (Al) of Brunswick, GA, and son David J. Coleman, III (Ann) of Kernersville, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren Chris Talley (Kristi), Jennifer Tindall (Lin), Lindsey Cate (Dylan), Kelly Carter (Preston), Julie Mosher (Alan), and Melissa Pullen (Jeff). She was blessed with 11 great grandchildren: Dalton, Landon, Cole, Will, Ashlin, Aiden, Addison, Kaiden, Jaxon, and twin girls due in December. Her family kept her young in spirit and actively engaged in life.
We are grateful to Hospice of the Golden Isles for providing a peaceful conclusion to our Mother's earthly journey, and we rest assured that her fall into the arms of God will be a celebration of life with the one who is good, true and beautiful.
