Michael R. Blackwood, Sr., 46, of Darien died Sunday at Hospice of the Golden Isles with his beloved family present. He had been a resident of Darien for the past twenty-four years, having come from Stone Mountain, GA. He was a retired electrician, was employed by the Eastside Fishing Club of Darien, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He greatly enjoyed his family and the outdoors and he and his dear wife had recently celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Blackwood of Darien; his mother, Janelle Johnson of White Plains, GA; two sons, Michael Blackwood, Jr. and Benjamin T. Blackwood, both of Darien; one daughter, Tonya Conway of Darien; one sister, Patricia Ann Weinz of Conyers, GA; grandchildren, Tori Conway, Jason Conway, Will Conway and Anna Conway, all of Darien; and two nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Jason Blackwood and sister, Connie Sue Smith. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 23 at 6 pm in the Hillcrest Chapel of Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home with Ed Deal officiating with remembrances by friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles or to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home.
