Michael Anthony "Smiley" Bonghi, 82 died Tuesday at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Mike was a retired textile worker with 38 years of service. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy and was proudly aboard the USS Hammul in the South Pacific. He loved baseball, reading books, and ships. Surviving are his loving wife of 24 years, Phyllis Bonghi of Brunswick; a son, Michael A Bonghi of Philadelphia; sisters, Josie Pingelli of New Jersey, and Esther Turscak of Ohio; Betty Bonghi of Philadelphia. A step-son, Joseph Slawnyk (Darlene) of Brunswick; and step-daughter, Alice Lawless (Mike) of Bloomsburg, PA. 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elisa Bonghi and his father, Giusseppi Bonghi, a brother James Bonghi and 3 grand children, and a step son, Ronald Slawnyk. Everyone Smiley met loved his smile. He will be missed by all.
