Michael James Stopchuck, 88, of Brunswick, GA, departed this life on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family.

Born September 6, 1935, to Anna and Martin Stopchuck. He was a graduate of West Deer High School in Russellton, PA, class of 1955. Mike was offered a football scholarship to attend the University of Miami. In 1956, he signed on with the Philadelphia Phillies and played professional baseball until he was drafted into the Army.

In 1957, he married Jimmie Ann Davis. They spent two years stationed in Germany where Mike played baseball, football, and basketball for the Army. Upon returning to Brunswick, he went to work for Georgia Pacific and retired after 34 years of service. He was a charter member of College Place United Methodist Church where he was very active and served in several leadership roles over the years.

Mike is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jimmie Ann Stopchuck; two daughters, Lisa Stopchuck and Susan DeMoss (Randy); brothers, John Stapchuck (Mary Lou), Paul Stopchuck (Dorothy), and Martin Stapchuck (Karen); and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at College Place United Methodist Church and the memorial service will begin at 11:00 am.
