A Little Bit of Heaven Pet Cemetery.
Our dear sweet Molly passed from this life on July 7, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. We were blessed with her from a pup at 6 weeks from a farm near Tyndall, SD. She passed several levels of obedience training, and we learned a lot together. She welcomed and bonded with rescue brother "Jake" well and they did a lot of dog life together. Molly was the dominant and Jake the loyal quiet follower but supportive. Molly served as a crosswalk guard dog with me at the Meadowbrook Elementary School in Rapid City, SD for 2 years courageously guiding kids and adults across the street but secretly checking all backpacks for PB&J sandwiches (she frequently got leftovers on the return trip!) She was not deterred by rain, sleet, snow, cold or hot weather. She held her head high and was noted to bark at those driving to fast. Molly also assisted me in nursing home and hospice patient care in her special way. The patients received more from her than me clearly. We never lost a tennis ball as she had a great nose for retrieval. We frequently left with more tennis balls that we arrived with. She taught Jake how to retrieve. Her favorite treats were ice cream (any variety), French toast batter and anything high in cholesterol and fat. When a group of dogs would all gather chasing a ball at the park, she plowed in with others, pushed and with head down she came out with the ball always offending the others. She had a deep loud bark only when some "hooman" was doing something wrong like driving too fast up the road or arriving at the house when unexpected or startling her. She however, never bit another dog or person. We loved her in our home and when she would disappear (frequently) we found her cooling on the tile floor or more often in the middle of a king size bed resting on my pillow. She was a very smart and intuitive dog; always smarter than some humans I have met I do believe. We were blessed to have had such good help caring for her in her life and we are truly grateful. Thank you each and everyone and I'm sure you recall those eyes and ever welcoming tongue for a kiss or slurp. As Red Sovine said many years ago "If dogs have a heaven there is one thing I know, Ole Molly has got a wonderful home." We choose to believe that. So be it. Thank you, Molly, for being a loyal and happy member of our family and often offering your love, advice, guidance, protection, and counsel - not to mention your ever listening ears.
