Nancy Bandy succumbed to a brief battle with cancer at the age of 78. She was born in Jamestown, New York on October 22, 1943, to Howard and Phyllis Nelson. She was raised in western New York state. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education from S.U.N.Y., Empire State College in Buffalo, New York. Nancy's family and friends have been the cornerstone of her life and she was devoted to them, especially her grandchildren.
During those years, she spent a brief time teaching in Oxford, N.Y., and was Executive Director of the Jamestown Girls Club. Nancy lived in Memphis and then Atlanta. The majority of her career was as a Regional Vice President for Kimberly Quality Care serving the Southeast Region. She moved to St. Simons Island in January of 1993 and has resided here since then. She was franchise owner and operator of Kids R' Kids Quality Learning Center in Brunswick and retired from the state of Georgia Dept. of Labor after ten years. Her retirement years have been the most rewarding of her life. She is an active member of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church on St. Simons, where she could often be found with her church family at Manna House. She was on the Board of Volunteer Services for the Southeast Georgia Health System. She was Volunteer Coordinator at the Senior Care Center where her greatest reward was volunteering there.
Nancy is survived by her son, Craig Bandy, her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Bandy, daughter Amy Hill, and grandchildren, Ashley and Tommy Bandy and Amelia Hill. She is also survived by her brothers, Thomas Nelson (Vicki) of Orchard Park, NY, John Nelson of Pine, Arizona, Eric Nelson (Sharon), of St. Petersburg, Florida, Kristen Herman (Dave) of Carlsbad, California, and Lisa Cepis (Gary) of Cleveland, Ohio and four children who call her "GG", Lauren and Cooper Freidlander of Canton, GA, and Lillian and Rowan Sanford of Thomasville, GA.
Upon her passing, she wants to remind everyone to love God and to love one another. Nancy was a great friend, especially to those who needed the most love. She will be missed. Memorials may be made to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice. The service will be held at Holy Nativity Church with Father Tommy Townsend officiating at a later date
