Obituary

Nancy Agnes Martin Berlin, age 78, of St. Simons Island, Georgia passed away peacefully in her home on July 24th, 2024.

Born on October 14th, 1945, in Edinburgh, Scotland, Nancy was an amazing daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She grew up in New Edinburgh, Ottawa, Canada with one sister and three brothers in a 700 square foot, 1 bathroom home – a very close-knit family! Upon completing her early education and moving to the United States, she spent over 35 years with International Business Machines (IBM) which made "home" many places – Austin, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana, Wilmington, Delaware, and for a large part of her life, Atlanta, Georgia. She retired (sort of) to her favorite place, St. Simons Island, in 2019.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Tracy Anne Dodunski; her cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Margaret Hudgins, Megan Sally Crosby, Matthew McPhie Butcher, and Kenneth Scott Dodunski; and beloved great grandchildren, Jaxson Hudgins, Landon Hudgins, Curtis Butcher, Knox Crosby, Lily Hudgins, Finley Crosby, and Waylon Butcher. She is also survived by her valued brothers Andrew Martin, Daniel Martin, and adored sister Patricia Zieman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Nancy was predeceased by her parents Louis Chester Martin and Margaret McPhie Martin, and brother Charles Martin.

No words could ever describe the impact Nancy made in this world. Her love and loyalty for her family, no matter the distance, was evident. She was a dedicated mother to her daughter, a grandmother whose grandchildren credit their success in life to, a great grandmother who never met a belly she didn't have a tickle finger for. She had a long and distinguished career, predominantly with IBM, where she was known for her incredible ability to lead and manage every detail. An avid volunteer, she could often be found in a safety vest collecting trash, hosting holiday dinners for her friends, serving as a camp counselor for children with mental or physical disabilities, organizing and executing community events, and so much more. She enjoyed life and everything it had to offer – adventure, friendship, love, community, and family.

A memorial service will be held on August 21st, 2024, at 1:00 PM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker, Georgia. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in St. Simons. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any charitable contributions be made to the St. Simons Land Trust in Nancy's memory.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the community of St. Simons for the amazing friendship and support they offered Nancy in her retirement years. She loved living on island time, and you all made that possible.

Nancy will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of loyalty, love, adventure, and generosity will continue to inspire others she leaves behind.

Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family.
