Nancy Sullivan Davitte, 70, passed away peacefully at her home on Oak Grove Island, October 26, 2014.
She was born January 17, 1944 in Tarboro, North Carolina to the late Colonel Leonard Paul Sullivan and Virginia Sullivan. Nancy was a graduate of the Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, GA and recently enjoyed reconnecting with her many friends and classmates from that area.
Nancy spent much of her early years living around the world with her family as her father was transferred with the Army. She would then travel once more as a young bride married to her husband, Burt, who was an Air Force officer. Nancy embraced her duties as an officer's wife throughout Burt's career culminating in being the wife of a General. She spent many memorable years living in Vienna, Austria, making many friends and touring Europe. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her five grandchildren were the joys of her life.
Upon relocating to Oak Grove Island Nancy immediately made many friends and was instrumental in forming a very active social network in the neighborhood. She was a dear and loyal friend to everyone whose lives she touched and will always be fondly remembered. She rejoiced when she was able to return to Vienna bringing her Oak Grove Island and St. Simons Island friends to see the place which held so many fond memories for her. She was truly a treasured friend and she likewise treasured her many friends.
In addition to her parents, Col. and Mrs. Leonard P. Sullivan, she was preceded in death by her sister Judy Sullivan.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Burt, her son David Davitte and his wife Beth Triplett Davitte of Houston, Texas; her daughter Brooke Davitte McGill and her husband Pat McGill of Atlanta, Georgia; her five grandchildren Sarah Lawrence McGill, Jennings McGill, Ireland McGill, Abbey Davitte, Grace Davitte; her brother Leonard Sullivan, Jr. of Charleston, South Carolina and her beloved little Westie, Annie.
Nancy will be missed by all those who knew her and will forever be in our hearts. Though she has slipped the surly bonds of this earth she has reached out and embraced the face of God.
A celebration of Nancy's life will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, 3:00 p.m., at the Oak Grove Island Marina.
