Obituary

Nancy McLendon McGlohon, 83, of Waverly, Georgia, passed away on April 2, 2025, after a brief illness with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was born on April 12, 1941, to the late Rawlin Alonzo "Mack" and Clifford Lewis McLendon in Hawkinsville, GA.

After completing high school, Nancy attended Georgia Southern University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education. She went on to earn her master's degree from Georgia College and State University.

Nancy's true passion was teaching. She taught high school English for 38 years at a number of schools, with her longest tenures at Wheeler County High School, Echols County High, and Cooly County High School, where she retired. She found joy in shaping the next generation of minds and cherished the time spent with her students, maintaining relationships with many long after they had graduated. Nancy served as Senior Beta Club sponsor at several of the high schools she worked for throughout her career and was honored for 20 years of service to the organization.

Nancy's love of teaching extended beyond the classroom. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hawkinsville, where she served as an adult Sunday School teacher before moving into the preschool ministry. For many years, she taught Vacation Bible School and served as a church deacon.

Outside of teaching, Nancy will be remembered for her immense love and dedication to her family. She was a devoted wife to Don McGlohon for 42 years prior to his passing and even obtained her licenses as a funeral director and paramedic to assist with the family funeral business. While Nancy loved her Georgia Bulldogs, reading, traveling, spending time at the beach, and being with friends, her greatest love of all was being "Meme" to her grandchildren, Chelsea and Chase. She found joy in spending time with her great granddaughter, Steelie, with whom she spent hours reading books, having tea parties, and playing with baby dolls. Nancy also spent numerous years as a volunteer at Flippin Elementary School, where she became "Meme" to all of the children there.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don McGlohon; parents, Rawlin Alonzo "Mack" and Clifford Lewis McLendon; sister, Eva Mae Scott; and her nephew, Lee Scott.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Donna McGlohon Braddy (Scott) of Waverly, GA; grandchildren, Chelsea Braddy of Brunswick, GA, and Chase Braddy of Lawrenceville, GA; and her great granddaughter, Steelie Zbikowski of Brunswick, GA.

Per her wishes, Nancy was cremated and buried next to her husband and parents in Orange Hill Cemetery in Hawkinsville, GA, in an intimate family service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Hawkinsville, GA.

Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is honored to have assisted the McGlohon family.
