Obituary

Pamela J. Sapp, affectionately known as Pam, age 61, died on August 15, 2024, at Magnolia Manor on Saint Simons Island, under the care of Hearth Hospice. She was born on October 28, 1962, at the military hospital in Frankfurt, Germany to Julia Marie Dawes and Russell C. Dawes, Sr.. Pam was happily married to Willis Kenneth "Kenny" Sapp on March 3, 1991.

Pam and her family lived in Frankfurt, Germany and Bamberg Germany, Fort Ord, California, and Wilson, North Carolina before her father retired at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA. Pam attended Juliette Low Elementary School and graduated from H.V. Jenkins High School. As a young woman, she was baptized at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah.

At age 35, Pam suffered a debilitating cardiac issue, requiring a pacemaker/defibrillator implant, which significantly impacted her lifestyle. Pam had an undeniable love for life but to her, family was most important. She had a contagious zest for life and a sharp wit. She loved her family with all of her being.

Pam was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and was elected to serve as Worthy Advisor of Savannah Assembly. Pam was named Grand Charity for the State of Georgia and spent the following year visiting other Rainbow Assemblies throughout the state. She was awarded the prestigious Grand Cross of Color for her work.

Pam found a renewed sense of purpose as a volunteer with the Girl Scout troop of her daughter, Jordan. Even after Jordan graduated from high school, Pam remained active in Girl Scouts. She served as Service Unit Manager for the Marshes of the Glynn for 16 years. Recognized for her devotion to Girl Scouts, Pam was awarded Girl Scout's highest honors, both the Thanks Badge and Thanks II Badge. For Pam, it was always about the girl scouts and their successes.

Pam is survived by her husband, Kenny Sapp of Brunswick; her daughter, Jordan Spradlin Sapp of Darien, Georgia; grandson, Terry Spradlin of Darien (who proclaimed she was the "funnest Memaw in the world"); mother, Julia Marie Dawes; brother, Russell C. Dawes, Jr. of Savannah; sister, Susan Eager of Mitchell, Indiana; sisters-in-law, Joy Austin (Chuck) and Vickie Baker; nieces, Stacy Gordon (Shane) of Eden, Georgia and Kathy Eager Shumpert (Carl) of Peru, Indiana; nephew, Jonathan Eager of Lafayette, Indiana; uncle, Jack Oakey (Anita); and special cousins Brenda, Bob, Linda, Vicky, Terry, Earl, Roy, Kay and David. She is also survived by her beloved Girl Scouts and the Girl Scout volunteers.

She was preceded in death by her father, Russell C. Dawes, Sr.; mother-in-law, Annie Jo Sapp; an infant sister, Jacqueline; brother-in-law, Gary Eager; nephew, Tommy Dawes; aunt, Rosa Bailey; special cousins, Tom and Nette; Toby Sapp, her beloved companion; as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents.
