Patricia Cofer Thompson, 88, of Saint Simons Island, Georgia passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

Patricia (Patty) was born March 26, 1934, on Saint Simons Island, Georgia to the late Henry and Ruby Cofer. She was the youngest of seven children. Patty spent her childhood years on Saint Simons Island and attended Glynn Academy High School.

She later married Lt General James (Jim) Edward Thompson Jr. (retired) on June 26, 1954, at Christ Church Frederica on Saint Simons Island, GA. She and Jim shared 63 years of loving marriage. Although Jim's Army career took them to many different military bases, Patty always felt an urge to serve the community she was in and impacted many lives through her drive, dedication, and volunteer efforts. She was always the gracious and hospitable hostess who would wholeheartedly open her arms and heart.

After Jim's military retirement, they moved back to Saint Simons Island, GA to be closer to family. Patty was an avid reader and enjoyed fellowship with family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her two Boston Terrier's Gator and Ginger, whom she adored and referred to as her "babies".

Patty lived a full life as a devoted wife and mother, but her favorite role was being "Bmama" to her grandchildren. They have many fond memories of taking trips to the beach, going on bikes rides around the island, and simply spending quality time with their "Bmama" and "Dandy".

Patty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed, but her infectious smile will live forever in our hearts.

Patty is preceded in death by her loving husband Lt General James Edward Thompson Jr.; and her five siblings, Virginia Cofer Goebel, Sameul (Sam) Thomas Cofer, Frances Cofer Bowman, Ruby Claire Cofer, and Henry Jackson (Jack) Cofer Jr.

Patty is survived by her daughter, Tara Stephens (Steve Stephens); grandsons, Mitchell Stephens (Brittany) and Trey Stephens (Jamie); a great grandson, Collins; and a sister, Edith Cofer Parker.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones for a visitation on Thursday, October 27th, 2022, from 10:00am - 11:00am at Christ Church Frederica. The funeral service will begin at 11:00am, with Father Thomas Purdy officiating. Burial will follow the service. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mitch and Trey Stephens; nephews, Greg and Patrick Parker; great nephew, Jack Parker; and dear friend, Stephen (Spec) Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles.
