Patricia T. Vinton, age 89, died peacefully on August 4, 2019.
Pat was born in Miami, Florida to Elizabeth Peters Tuten and Darcy Eugene Tuten. In 1930 the family moved back to Brunswick where their family lived.
Pat attended Sidney Lanier grammar school and Glynn Academy where she graduated in 1947. She attended Barrett School of Nursing in Augusta, GA graduating in 1950 with an R. N. degree.
It was there that she met a charming young med student named Luke Vinton from Atlanta. He was the love of her life. They married September 23, 1950, where he began his internship and residency at Crawford Long Hospital. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Vickie and Skip. They resided in Avondale Estates until his untimely death in 1984. Pat retired as Administrative Supervisor of nurses at Dekalb Medical center in 1996 and moved back to the Golden Isles for the remainder of her life.
She was a past president of Dekalb Medical Society Aux, a member of Decatur Junior League, and as a family, they attended Holy Cross Episcopal Church, and later Pat attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Decatur, GA.
Upon moving to St. Simons Island, she immediately became a participant in many things, including Newcomers and Shorebirds. She became an active member of Christ Church, Frederica attending Saturday services at St. Ignatius. She headed up the volunteers for the church Parrish House and the Emergency Assistance Program through Christ Church and was active on the Alter guild at St. Ignatius. She was an avid bridge player. She loved her church, family, and her friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Williams (Gary), son Luther M. "Skip" Vinton III, three grandchildren, Christopher Vinton (Michelle) of Parker, Colorado, Nathan Williams (Cody) of Lawrenceville, GA and Patricia Vinton Folds (Jason) of Dallas, GA; Great-grandchildren, Corbin and Gabriella Williams, Braden, Ethan, Eli, and Sophia Folds; Sister-in-law Eleanor Vinton, of Sevierville Tennessee, and several cousins and a host of dear friends.
She would like to be remembered as someone who loved life and lived it to its fullest. She always said she had a wonderful life and thanked God for being so blessed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Christ Church, Frederica at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow at the Parrish House.
In lieu of flowers, she asked that memorial gifts may be made to the Emergency Assistance Program at Christ Church, Frederica or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
