Obituary

LTC Paul Chalmers Jr., USA Retired, 84, died on Monday, April 5, 2021, at his home in Brunswick, Georgia. Born on October 24, 1936, to Col. Paul and Julia Agnes McCarthy Chalmers in the Republic of Panama, he married Janice Boston on July 18, 1985, in Atlanta, Georgia where he lived for the next thirty-three years. Paul is survived by his wife, Janice Boston Chalmers; children, Cheree Marsh and Patrick Boston Chalmers; grandchildren, Paul Marsh, Andrew Marsh, John Marsh, Shawn Chalmers, and Mary Chalmers; and ten great-grandchildren. Golden Isles Cremation Center and Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is honored to handle the arrangements. We lost my grandpa today. We lost a hero, a role model, a GREAT man. He was what me and my brothers always used as a benchmark of who we wanted to be when we grew up. What we expected a man to look and act and sound like. Paul Chalmers was not only the kind of person that commanded the room wherever he went he was the funniest, most intelligent, well-read, and all-around coolest man to ever walk this earth. I will always remember him sitting in his study next to the fireplace with a cigar in his hand with history books stacked knee-high on his left and a glass of wine and a chessboard on his right. I grew up without a father (luckily I had the best mother you could ask for) but I had my grandpa to teach me life lessons that I still draw from every day. I will miss him purposely unwrapping his Christmas gifts as slowly as possible just because it bothered my grandma but made everyone else laugh I will miss feeling like a celebrity every time we pulled up to Anywhere in your Porsche as a kid I will the countless hours of chess we played as I sat at the foot of your chair I will miss smoking cigars with you I will miss the hikes in the mountains and trips to museums that I couldn't really appreciate as a kid but would give ANYTHING to relive now. I am sure everyone is sad when they lose a loved one as impactful in their life as my grandpa was but honestly I am sad for EVERYONE because I can UNDOUBTEDLY tell you the earth is a lesser place now that Paul A. Chalmers is no longer with us I love you Big Paul When I tell you my grandpa was the coolest man ever I don't mean "normal" grandpa cool I mean they most likely based the Dos Equis "most interesting man" off of him I'm like 90% sure Tom Selleck and Charles Bronson Only grew out their mustaches after seeing my grandpa have one He was the type of guy George Clooney would have acted like if he was trying to be charming. The type of guy Steve McQueen and Robert Redford would have looked up to. The type of guy Warren Buffet would have gone to for financial advice. An absolute LEGEND of a man
