IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Race Jerome
Trent, Jr.
July 18, 1953 – December 1, 2025
Race Jerome Trent Jr., born July 18, 1953, in Newark, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025.
Race was a devoted father, loving companion, and a great friend to many. Known for his gentle spirit and playful sense of humor, he had a way of making those around him laugh with his goofy jokes and warm personality. He carried a light that brought comfort and joy to the people in his life.
Music was one of Race’s greatest passions. A drummer his entire life, he found rhythm not only in music but in the way he lived — expressive, soulful, and full of heart. He also loved movies and cherished attending church, where he found peace and strength in hearing the word of God.
Race was the second eldest of seven siblings: Mary Pugsley, Larry Trent, Doretha Trent, Kenneth Trent, Avis Trent Johnson, and Donna Trent. Family meant everything to him, and he remained deeply connected to those he loved.
He leaves behind his children, Terrence Trent, Burgandee McGraw, and Danielle Bennett, as well as four stepsons by marriage: Robert Aikey, Edward Aikey, Adam Williams, and Jonathan Southers. Race was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, in addition to many step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also lovingly remembered by his close companion, JoAnn Radcliff.
Race was preceded in death by his father, Race Trent Sr.; his mother, Catherine Trent; his brother, Larry Trent; his sister, Donna Trent; and his wife of 19 years, Brenda Trent (Southers).
Race Jerome Trent Jr. will be remembered for his laughter, kindness, faith, and the music he carried in his soul. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
