Reverend David L. Patterson, Ph.D., 72, of St. Simons Island died Friday, September 12, 2014. He was born in Chicago, IL on April 6, 1942 and is the son of the late Beverly Norris and William T. Patterson. Dr. Patterson had a private practice here locally as a psychologist. He graduated in 1968 from St. Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland and became a Marist Catholic Priest. He went on to become a Licensed Psychologist and graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1977. He relocated to St. Simons Island area to be with his family in 1983 where he began his private practice. Dr. Patterson has received numerous awards including Who's Who Man of the Year. He has written several articles and co-written a book. He was a member of the St. Williams Catholic Church.
Preceded in death were his parents, William and Beverly Patterson of St. Simons; Brother Jerry Patterson of Chicago, IL; sister, Joy Patterson, and brother T. Stephen Patterson of New Jersey and most recently Leland, N.C. Surviving is his lifelong friend, Sister Mary Kristen Lancaster (R.S.M.) of Savannah, GA.; nephew, William Leo Patterson and wife Kristen of Watertown, Mass; six nieces of the South Carolina area, Debbie Holland & husband Jeffery, Victoria Gore & husband Larry, Angela Norman & husband Chuck, Maria Graves & husband Danny, Linda Heyward & husband Bernie and Gina Simmons & husband Noel; sister in law, Dr. Judith Patterson of Leland, N.C.; several great nephews and great nieces and cousins including Mike Stearns of Brunswick, GA., and Executive Assistant and lifelong friend, Denise Bankston of St. Simons.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Williams Catholic Church, 2300 Frederica Road on St. Simons Island. There will be a reception to follow at the St. Williams Parish Hall after the ceremony.
