In Loving Memory of Robert “Bobby” Lee Andrews
October 4, 1953 – July 11, 2026
Robert Lee Andrews, affectionately known as “Bobby,” was born on October 4, 1953, in Brunswick, Georgia, to the late Ella Mae Andrews Ellison and Hiawatha Andrews Sr. On July 11, 2026, Robert completed his earthly journey.
Robert was a proud 1971 graduate of Brunswick High School in Brunswick, Georgia. During his high school years, he played football for the Brunswick High Pirates, proudly wearing number 73 as a defensive tackle. He later served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Robert was a carpenter by trade and a man who knew how to work with his hands. He could build, repair, and create. He also had a green thumb and loved working with the land. Over the years, he shared those gifts through his work and involvement with Rebuild Glynn County CDC Inc., the Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority, and the Rise Risley Community Garden.
But to truly know Robert was to know that he was a man with a story.
Robert was not a perfect man, and his life was not a perfect life. He had victories, he had struggles, and he had times when he fell short. But through it all, his life had purpose. He knew the teachings of Jesus Christ, and no matter where life took him, he knew how to find his way back to God.
He knew who he was because he knew whose he was.
Robert loved talking about the Truth of Christ. He wanted young people to learn from his life, his experiences, and even the choices he had made, in hopes that they would make better choices for themselves. Whenever there was a listening ear, Robert was always willing to offer advice, share what life had taught him, and encourage someone along the way. He did not speak from a place of perfection. He spoke from experience.
That was part of his testimony.
Robert had a heart for people. He was known for helping others and showing empathy toward mankind. He used what he had, what he knew, and what he had lived through to encourage somebody else along the way.
And if there is one thing his children will always hear in their hearts, it is something he told them over and over again:
“Don’t worry about me. I’m gonna be all right.”
Those were not just words Robert said when life was easy. He continued to say them even as his health declined and his earthly journey was coming to an end. While those who loved him were worried about him, Robert was still trying to comfort them.
“Don’t worry about me. I’m gonna be all right.”
And because of the faith he carried and the God he knew, his family can now hold on to those words in a different way. Robert believed he was going to be all right. Until the end, he wanted his children to believe it too.
One of Robert’s greatest joys was spending time with his grandson, A'mir Wright. The bond they shared was special, and those moments brought him great happiness.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ella Mae Andrews Ellison and Hiawatha Andrews Sr.; his brothers, Hiawatha Andrews Jr. and Robert Lewis Thomas Sr.; and his former wife, Patricia Booker Andrews.
He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Walter (Mischell) Ellison; his children, Alicia Andrews, Rafael (Heather) Hardee, Chassity Andrews, Vernon (Tialia) Andrews, and Tiffany Foster; and his grandchildren, Kierra Watson, Akeem Baker, Samiyah Nobles, Anthony Wilson Jr., Amarrious Wilson, A'mir Wright, Vernon Andrews Jr., Alissity Andrews, De'Andre Hardee, De'Vante Hardee, Demetrious Hardee, LaMariya Hardee, Maryiah Hardee, Rafael Hardee Jr., Malaya Fontimayor, Nevaeh Fontimayor, and Henry Fontimayor.
Robert also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and others whose lives crossed paths with his along the way.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the Golden Isles Veterans Village community for the friendship, love, and support shown to Robert. We are also deeply grateful to the staff of Hospice of South Georgia for the care and compassion they provided during his final days; to his many friends throughout the Arco community; to his special friend, Mary; and to every person who ever took the time to speak a word of encouragement, show him kindness, sit and talk with him, or simply let him know that he mattered.
Robert “Bobby” Lee Andrews was a son, a brother, a father, a grandfather, a Veteran, a carpenter, a gardener, a man of faith, and a man with a testimony.
His life was not defined by being perfect. It was defined by the fact that he kept finding his way back. He kept believing. He kept planting seeds. And in his own way, he kept trying to leave something behind that might help the next person do better.
The things he built with his hands may one day fade. The gardens he tended will change with the seasons. But the seeds he planted in people, through his words, his advice, his faith, and the lessons of his own life, will continue to grow.
And to his children, family, and everyone who loved him, his words remain:
“Don’t worry about me. I’m gonna be all right.”
And now, we believe you are.
Rest well, Robert. Your life was your testimony.
