Robert Lodge Dressner, 85, of St Simons Island passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 at his residence. Bob was the beloved owner-operator of the popular Dressner's Village Cafe from 1988 until 2005.
Bob was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey. He graduated from Oklahoma State University, majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He worked in the food business his entire career, holding positions in Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and several states in the Midwest, before coming to St. Simons Island in 1988.
Bob was a "character" who enjoyed making people laugh. He had a ready stock of corny one-liners for all situations. At the cafe, Bob spent much of his time talking with customers, making them chuckle and feel comfortable. The cafe became a favorite spot for both tourists and locals.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; 3 sons, Paul (Judy) Dressner, David (Judy) Dressner, and Jim (Elaine) Dressner; 8 grandchildren, Bob, Chris, Kendall (Justin) Lyles, Courtney, Kevin (Emily), Brian, Julie, Cade (Caroline) Robinson, and 1 great-grandson Ezekiel Lyles.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Myrtle Lodge Dressner, his brother Harry Jr., and his sister Mary Jane Smith.
Visitation and a memorial service will be held on Thursday August 15th at Golden Isles Presbyterian Church, 48 Hampton Point Drive, St. Simons Island. Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm, followed by the memorial service starting at 2:30 pm. The Reverend Alex Brown will officiate.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to the Golden Isles Presbyterian Church Mission Program or to Hospice of the Golden Isles (1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick).
Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
