Obituary

Robert Franklin Hayes passed away January 25, 2022, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Georgia. He was born October 18, 1938, in Thomaston, Georgia to Claude Franklin Hayes and Wille Mae Hayes. Bob graduated from Robert E. Lee Institute, Thomaston, Georgia in 1957. After graduation, he served 4 years in the United States Air Force. In 1961, he joined the Trust Company of Georgia in Atlanta, where he spent 32 years before retiring. In 1963, Bob married the former Diane McKendrick, and they were happily married 43 years before her untimely passing in 2007. Together they raised two sons, Bryan, and Trent, in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He completed his education at Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. Bob was a very dedicated father and some of his proudest moments were participating in little league sports with his sons, being a band booster for Parkview High School Marching Band and watching as both boys earned graduate college degrees. He was especially proud of Bryan's retirement from the United States Navy and Trent's exceptional career in music education and the IT community. Bob and Diane were devoted members of Mountain Park United Methodist Church in Stone Mountain. They also enjoyed traveling the world together. They moved to Brunswick in 2001 and became members of the First United Methodist Church of Brunswick, joining the Duncan Sunday School class. Bob was very social and enjoyed volunteering at the Southeast Georgia Regional Hospital in Brunswick. In 2009, Bob and Madge Comer developed and enjoyed a very loving relationship for 13 years until her passing in January 2022. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Willie Mae, his wife Diane, and loving partner Madge Comer. He is survived by his brother Wayne (Darlene), sons Bryan (Lisa) and Trent (Paula), grandchildren Nicholas Hayes, Thomas James Hayes, Leah Bulvanoski, Ashley Maynard, and Lauren Wise (Cary), great-grandchildren Colton and Ellie Wise, niece Lisa Hayes Cox and nephew Chris Hayes. He also leaves behind Madge's devoted children and grandchildren, whom he adored and considered his own. Visitation will be Friday, January 28, 2:00 pm at Brunswick Memorial Gardens with a memorial service at 3:00pm, officiated by Dr. Wright Culpepper and Rev. Richard Soper. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
