Obituary

Robert Franklin Parks was born November 6, 1936, in Jesup, Georgia, to Bernice and Kenneth Parks. He grew up on his family's farm outside town and Yvonne Harmon, the love of his life, in junior high school. They married in 1961 and moved to Brunswick where they spent their married life.

Robert owned the Dairy Queen on Norwich Street in the 1970s and 80s. Many people who came to work for him became like family. After selling the Dairy Queen, he worked for the former Captain's Table Restaurant, and then for Max Transport St. Simons. In all his work, he always enjoyed meeting everyone he came in contact with and made friends with many of them. He was always willing to help anyone in need and gave often of his time, energy, and resources. He had a great heart.

Robert was a member of First Baptist Church for as long as he lived in Brunswick. For about 25 years, the 9-10 year-olds who attended First Baptist had Robert as one of their Sunday School teachers; he enjoyed spending time with the kids as they began to learn about Jesus. Robert also enjoyed bowling, Nascar, UGA football, and traveling. He had a great ability to enjoy life (as well as a good afternoon nap).

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Yvonne Harmon Parks, two daughters; Wendy Steele and Julie Curtis, two granddaughters; Kylie and Maddie Curtis, two sisters; Ginger Lewis and Kay Fries, and one brother; Richard Parks. He will be missed by many and remembered and loved always by his Family.

A memorial service will be held at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Our family will be forever grateful to the wonderful staff at HomeLife on Glynco. They cared for Robert in his final months and provided far more than physical care – they gave him comfort, support, and love. Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home/Golden Isles Cremation Center is honored to have assisted the family of Mr. Parks.
