Obituary

Ruby Geneva Runnels Knight, 91, of Lakeland, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on August 22, 2026. She was born January 9, 1935, to James Curtis (“J.C.”) & Ruby Runnels in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Ruby attended the University of Southern Mississippi.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Wilson Harold “Hal” Knight, who was an avid golfer. They met working for Hercules Corporation in Hattiesburg. After marriage, they resided in Brunswick, Georgia until they retired to Lakeland, Florida in 1992.

Ruby enjoyed painting, reading, writing poems and was a big football fan especially the University of Georgia. She was a member of the Scott Lake Baptist Church and also attended Chapel at Schalamar Creek.

Ruby was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister Shirley Dean Thompson.

Ruby is survived by her stepdaughter Cindy Finleyson (Bobby, deceased) of Brunswick, Georgia, a stepson, Darrell Carter (Stella) of Screven, Georgia, a nephew David Thompson (Andrea) of Nashville, Tennessee, three grandsons Brett Finleyson (Allison) of Eagle Pass, Texas, Brian Finleyson (DeeAnna) of Brunswick, Georgia, Chad Carter (Mary) of Ludowici, Georgia, a granddaughter Candice Beasley, of Screven, Georgia, eleven great grandchildren – Walker, Weston, Kylee, BriAnna, Adrianna, Halle, Hayden, Charity, Kapel, Madison and Kaleb, and three great nieces - Harper, Helen Jane and Elodie.

Ruby will be remembered as a devoted wife, a faithful follower of the Lord, and a generous giver of her love, time, talents and advice to her family, friends and neighbors.

Ruby’s family would like to thank her wonderful and steadfast neighbors Maureen Cournoyer and Ginnie Bellew for their love, care and support.

A visitation at 10:30 am followed by a funeral service at 11am will be held for Ruby on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4407 U.S. Hwy 17 North, Brunswick, Georgia 31525. Interment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
