Rufus "Ray" Alexander Scott, III, 73, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed on October 30, 2018 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. He was born in Quitman, Georgia, January 4, 1945, the son of Inez Andrews Scott Cone and the late Rufus Alexander Scott, Jr. He grew up in Perry, Florida where he graduated from Taylor County High School. Ray was also a proud graduate of the University of Florida, with a degree in mechanical engineering. He had a forty-two-year career in manufacturing, progressing from front-line manager to corporate vice president, for companies including Procter and Gamble, LouAna Foods, and Anderson Clayton.
Wherever he lived, he was active in church and in volunteer work. Most recently, as a member of The Chapel, he served on the Wednesday night work crew, finance committee, and was chairman of the trustees. He served with Gideons International for many years and volunteered at the International Seafarers' Center.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Alfred M. Cone. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Peacock Scott, son, Lance Scott and his wife Susan of California, and daughter, Courtney May and her husband Mike of Virginia, as well as four grandchildren: Sophia and Ava Scott and Cooper and Kent May. He is also survived by one sister, Donna Cone Trotter and her husband Mitchell of Georgia and three brothers, Michael Scott, Phillip Scott, and Bruce Scott, all of Virginia and his mother of Georgia.
