Obituary

Ruth "Ruthie" Esther Howell

May 8, 1949 – September 5, 2026

Ruth Esther Howell, affectionately known by many nicknames, including “Goofy Ruthie,” passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, at the age of 77. To her grandchildren, she was simply Grandmother — although Ashley lovingly called her “Grandmother Lipnicki,” after one of their favorite movies, The War. Whatever name you called her, there was no one quite like Ruthie.

Ruthie was a God-fearing Christian woman whose faith was at the center of her life. She prayed daily for the people she loved and never hesitated to help someone in need when she had the means to do so. She was a woman of incredible strength, determination, and conviction. Ruthie was a force to be reckoned with, never afraid to tell it like it was, stand up for what she believed in, or refuse to take anything from anyone. She taught her family that being strong and being loving could exist side by side.

Ruthie retired from Glynn County Animal Control, a career that reflected her love for animals. She especially loved her dog, Sammy, who held a special place in her heart.

Outside of work, Ruthie enjoyed fishing, shopping, Goodwill trips, and finding treasures at yard sales. But her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, Ashley and Justin. As a grandmother, Ruthie made sure they always had everything they needed, but she gave them much more than material things. She gave them laughter, strength, wisdom, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Ruthie taught her grandchildren how to work hard, love with their whole hearts, stand up for themselves, and help others whenever they could. She also made sure they were tough — because, as Ruthie knew, life required a little toughness. But perhaps what her family will remember most was her personality and her incredible sense of humor. Ruthie was always laughing, and she had a way of making everyone around her laugh too.

One of the most treasured memories Ruthie created with Ashley and Justin began when they were young, when she taught them how to speak Pig Latin. What started as a silly game became a lifelong family memory. It was something they shared for years, and incredibly, even in the days leading up to her passing, Ruthie was still talking to Ashley in Pig Latin. It was one of the many ways Ruthie reminded her family that even in the hardest moments, there was always room for a little laughter.

Ruthie is survived by her son, Benji Post; grandchildren, Ashley Post and Justin Post; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Green, Kylan McFarland, Kyndall Post, and Kamdyn Post; and her siblings, Kathy Murphy, Tammy Tolbert, Audrey Howell, and Jimmy Howell. She also leaves behind countless family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.

Ruthie’s life was defined by faith, family, strength, laughter, and a heart big enough to love fiercely. She was one of a kind, and her personality and humor will never be replaced.

Her family will forever carry the lessons she taught them, the laughter she gave them, and the love she poured into them.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered as an angel in their hearts.
