Ruth Gray Walker, 88, of St. Simons Georgia, died on March 9th, 2013. Mrs. Walker, a native of Atlanta was a graduate of Druid Hills High School, Agnes Scott College with a degree in Biology and a Masters Degree in Human Development from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She was employed by the Tinton Falls school system in NJ as a science teacher for 25 years before retiring to St. Simons in 1993 with her husband Lloyd. She was married to Lloyd for 65 years until his death in 2010.
Ruth loved to read, travel, attend the symphony and play bridge with her good friends. The Walkers traveled extensively across the United States and to 17 European countries. She was active for many years in the St. Simons Shorebirds and the book club. Ruth loved to read her NY Times every day. She was an active swimmer her entire life and loved the water. The Walkers were founding members of Unitarian Universalists of Coastal Georgia.
Survivors include her four children and seven grandchildren. Kathryn Walker (David Kirkland) of Cumming GA and their two children Lane Gillespie (Thomas) and Walker Kirkland. Howard Walker (Vanessa) of St. Simons and their two children Tristan and Grace. Martin Walker (Gail) of Brentwood TN and their three children Reagan, Blaine, and Colton. Ellen Walker of New York City. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jeanne M Gray of St. Simons and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on March 30th, at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home at 1 PM.
