Sara Elizabeth Hodges Walker, 78, passed away on September 8, 2026, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, following a brief illness.

Born on December 11, 1947, in Brunswick, Georgia, Sara was the daughter of James Manson Hodges and Lois Tucker Hodges. She grew up in Brunswick and attended Glynn Academy before continuing her education at Brunswick Jr. College, followed by Georgia Southern University. She later earned her master's degree from Valdosta State University.

Sara dedicated 31 years of her life to education as a teacher, spending the majority of her career teaching in Pierce County. Her commitment to her students and her passion for education touched the lives of many throughout her years as an educator.

Outside of her career, Sara had a deep love for reading and cherished time spent with her family. She will be remembered for the love she shared with those closest to her and for the lasting impact she had on the lives of her family, friends, students, and all who knew her.

Sara is survived by her siblings, James Hodges; Mary Ann (Derrick) Hodges Hulsey; and Nancy Hodges, all of Brunswick, GA; her three children, Wendy Walker Tillman of Nashville, TN; Ben (Jill) Walker of Cumming, GA; and Matthew (Tiffani) Walker of Brunswick, GA; her seven beloved grandchildren, Dane Tillman of Colorado Springs, CO; Olivia Tillman and Jake Tillman, both of Nashville, TN; Reed Walker and Sara Kay Walker, both of Cumming, GA; and Elizabeth Ann Walker and Harrison Walker, both of Brunswick, GA; her five nieces and nephews, Stephen Hulsey and Michael (MeMe) Hulsey, both of Brunswick, GA; Jim (Julie) Hodges of State College, PA; Walker (Jill) Todd of Nahunta, GA; Jaime (Michael) Carter of Blackshear, GA; Stape Littlefield of Atlanta, GA; and Luke Littlefield of Waycross, GA; and her sisters-in-law, Cassie (Raymond) Walker Todd of Blackshear, GA, Laurie Walker Littlefield of Waycross, GA, and Mary Lu Hosley of Asbury Park, NJ.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents, James Manson Hodges and Lois Tucker Hodges; her mother-in-law, Irene Thomas Walker Dixon; and her brother-in-law, Dan Littlefield.

Visitation will take place at First United Methodist Church of Brunswick (1400 Norwich St, Brunswick, GA 31520) at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, with services following in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. A private graveside service at Brunswick Memorial Park will follow.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Sara Elizabeth Hodges Walker to First United Methodist Church.
