Charles Scott Reynolds, 48, of St. Simons Island entered into his eternal home at 1:41 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 surrounded by a few of his close friends and his loving family. Scott was born on September 8, 1969 in Belleville, IL to Charles Dwight Reynolds and Brenda Chappell Reynolds. In 1986 Scott's father Charles moved his family to St. Simons Island and opened Island Automotive. Scott worked beside his dad everyday after school. After graduating from Glynn Academy in 1988, Scott started working full time in the family business.
Scott met the love of his life, Angie, in 1993 at Golden Isles Speedway where he enjoyed racing stock cars. They were joined in marriage in 1995. Scott loved all sports, but volleyball was his true passion. Whether Scott was playing indoor, outdoor, refereeing games, coaching his daughter or coaching other kids and adults who were interested in the sport, he was making an impact to grow the volleyball community. Scott was also a founding member of the Golden Isles Volleyball Club, where he was diligently working to preserve our local Coast Guard beach court. Scott was a head coach at SEVA (Southeast Volleyball Academy) and also the head coach at Explosive Sports in Camden County. He introduced his daughter, Emily to volleyball at age 11. He coached Emily's volleyball team from the time she was in middle school until she graduated from high school at Glynn Academy. She received a scholarship to play volleyball here locally, at the College of Coastal Georgia.
In January of 2017 Scott and his son Rett began the exciting sport of Motocross. Rett's first race was February 12, 2017 and from that point on every weekend the family would pack up the camper or race trailer and head to a dirt bike track. They traveled all over Southeast Georgia and North Florida to have new motocross adventures. Even though his family has not been a part of motocross very long, Scott felt like the motocross community was part of his family.
Scott enjoyed anything outdoors. Whether in season or out, you would always find Scott, his family, and friends out on the water creating memories to last a lifetime. He loved Lake Burton, Lake Sinclair, Silver Glen Springs, Ginny Springs, the local rivers, and the ocean.
Scott was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica on St. Simons Island. Scott also enjoyed playing softball for the Church league for many years.
Running his family's business after his father's death in 2003, Scott impacted many lives including those he worked with whom he also considered family. Following in his footsteps, his daughter Emily and his nephew Chase Johnson have learned from him to keep operations running just as he would.
Scott is remembered by many locals for his dedication to our island and community to stay behind in recent hurricanes. He and his family were happy to be the eyes and hands for those who evacuated and couldn't return to their homes and businesses on St. Simons.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, Charles Dwight Reynolds; he is survived by his loving wife, Angie Freeman Reynolds of St. Simons Island; daughter, Emily Reynolds of Brunswick (Joshua McLeod); son, Charles Everett "Rett" Reynolds of St. Simons Island; mother, Brenda Reynolds-Battles of St. Simons Island; sister, Valerie Sandow (Shawn) of St. Simons Island; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his four-legged companions; Georgia, Lucy and Molly.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Scott on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church on St. Simons Island.
