Steven Chadwick Dixon of Saint Simons Island died suddenly on Monday, January 19. He was 41 years old.
Chad was employed at Bank of The Ozarks, formally Oglethorpe Bank, for 9 years. At his death, Chad was a Senior Loan Officer and Bank Vice-President.
He was remembered by friends and family members for his quick wit, warm personality, and loving spirit. A memorial service for Chad will be held at 11 am Friday, January 23 at Saint Simons United Methodist Church.
Chad was a father of 5-year-old triplets, Davene Elizabeth, Chadwick Gates, and Thomas Wells, and husband of 10 years to Ashly Carras Dixon. He is also survived by his parents, Judy Walker Dixon and Steve Dixon of Saint Simons: a sister, Anna Dixon of Saint Simons; a grandmother, Effie Mae Walker of Saint Simons Island; in-laws, Leslye and Tom Carras of Atlanta, Georgia. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins also survive him.
Chad was born January 7, 1974 in Waycross, GA, and spent his early years in Blackshear, GA. At the age of 9, Chad and his family moved to Brunswick and later to Saint Simons.
Chad was educated in the Glynn County public school system and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1992. He later attended Georgia Southern University where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1996. He was also a graduate of Georgia Banking School at the University of Georgia and Leadership Glynn.
He was a member of the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life, Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Saint Simons Island, a Chamber of Commerce ambassador and a Chamber Board member, and a member of the United Way of Glynn, and United Way Board Member.
Raising the triplets was the passion of his life. He was an avid football fan, particularly the Georgia Bulldogs, and a keen follower of fantasy football. He was an avid golfer before the birth of the triplets, which severely limited his game. He loved to travel, including a destination wedding in Laguna Beach, California. He loved taking the triplets to Disney, Atlanta, or whenever the whim would strike him. He also found much joy at home, grilling in the back yard, visiting the beach, dining at local restaurants, and riding the bike paths on the island.
In the lieu of flowers, donations may be made to establish an educational trust for the benefit of Davene Elizabeth Dixon, Thomas Wells Dixon, and Chadwick Gates Dixon. Donations may be made by check, payable to the Dixon Educational Trust and can delivered to any Ameris Bank branch. Donations may also me made Saint Simons United Methodist Church Preschool.
