Steve Michael Godley, 64 years of age, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, at SGHS after an extended illness.
Steve was born December 17, 1954, in Brunswick, GA to Clyde H. Godley (D) and Patricia Monroe. He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Johnson) Godley, three sons: Trey Godley, Ryan Godley, Jonathan Godley, three stepchildren: Amanda Crosby Moncus (Chris), Ana Crosby, Jared Crosby (Amy) and 9 Grandchildren, one brother, 4 half-brothers and 2 half- sisters, and numerous niece and nephews. Preceded him in death were his father, Clyde Godley, of Brunswick, grandparents: RT (Red) and Julia Godley of Jekyll Island and James and Lula Monroe of Savannah.
Steve grew up on Jekyll Island with his grandparents loving to explore the woodlands, the beaches and playing the golf courses. He graduated from Glynn Academy-Class of 72, attended UGA and College of Coastal GA.
Steve held several jobs in his early years but loved the game of golf and became a golf professional in 1986. He worked for several area golf courses, Jekyll Island, Sanctuary Cove, Heritage Oaks, and The Lakes. He was a lifetime PGA member. His passion was teaching and traveled the east coast with Bird Golf Academy for several years doing just that.
Steve loved reading and studying his Bible, spending time with family, laughing and telling stories and always wearing a smile on his face. He was a loving, caring person, devoted husband, father, and friend, always thinking of others first. "To know him was to love him".
