Sylvia Dale Vaughn Rivenbark Moffett, 85, of Gastonia, NC and formally St. Simons Island, GA, passed away September 8, 2026. She was born February 1, 1941 in Gastonia daughter of Oscar Alvin and Eliza Henry Vaughn. 

Dale was a graduate of Woman’s College, Greensboro, NC and dedicated her entire career to educating and inspiring students as a teacher and Chair of the Business Department at Dunwoody High School, DeKalb Co., GA.

Dale, after retiring, with her husband Bob, moved to St. Simons where she spent many happy years enjoying the coastal lifestyle and treasuring time spent entertaining friends and family. She loved bringing people together around her table and creating lasting friendships and memories. She became an energetic volunteer for the Salvation Army and also conducted ghost tours of the SSI lighthouse. She was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and member of the 11th St. Beach Club. She was a member of the Saint Simons Presbyterian Church. Dale will be remembered for her warm hospitality, friendship and many lives she touched throughout her career and life.

Dale was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L Rivenbark of Waycross, GA, her second husband, Harry M Moffett III of Kansas City, MO, and her sister, Kay Vaughn Roberts of Gastonia, NC. And is survived by her brother, Barry Vaughn and wife, Mary of Burlington, NC, nieces and nephew, Kimberly Browning (Gary), Kelly Roberts, Kara Vaughn, all of Charlotte, NC, Damon Vaughn (Louise) of Raleigh, NC, Kathleen Haynes (Scott) of Boone, NC and stepdaughter Becky Forbes of Fernandina Beach, FL.
