Thomas R. 'Red' Sanders, 88, of Brunswick died May 18 at S.E. GA Health Systems with his loving family at his side.. He came to Glynn County in 1957 from Macon, and was retired from Allied Chemical. He was a member of the First Baptist Church on St Simons Island, the Optimist Club and Lions Club. He coached the Red Sox baseball team on St. Simons isl. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in WW II. He loved to fish and spend time with his family. Most significantly, Red was a loving husband, dad and grandfather whose sense of humor was enjoyed by all. A funeral service will be held at the graveside in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 21, 2009. Burial to follow. Reverend Felix Hayes, Jay Harris and Tim Nobles officiating. Visitation Wednesday night 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to any youth organization of your choice. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years Helen Inez Sanders, one daughter teresa Sanders Baxter, four sons Thomas Arnold (Terry) Sanders, Robert Toombs (Nikki) sanders, Don (Jennifer) Sanders, Arthur (Jodi) Sanders. Sisters Hoil Sanders of Athens, Bonnie Sue Huggins of Atlanta, one brother R. W. Sanders of Athens. Five grandchildren ryan sanders, Rachel sanders, Samantha (Jimmy) Crum, Courtney Sanders and Grace Sanders. Also beloved family friend James "Alex" Alexander.
