Lenora Flanders Baker

Lenora Flanders Baker passed away peacefully at home in Brunswick April 30, 2026, after a heroic battle with Lewy body dementia.

Born in Dublin, Georgia, June 1, 1949, Lenora was raised in Brunswick and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1967. She went on to work as a bookkeeper at several firms, eventually settling with Denny Silva’s CPA firm where she stayed for the better part of four decades. She retired from Coastal CPAs in October 2023. She also was recognized by many for working at the video store, Island Video, on St. Simons. She was known for her cheerful voice, laughter, smile and kindness.

Lenora loved music and even snuck out of the house at 15 to see The Beatles. She went on to see Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, and many others, and later shared that love by taking her children to hear live music from an early age. In her younger years, she also loved to go flounder gigging and seining at night with her mother-in-law, Ida Baker, and she loved her brother Jerry’s boiled peanuts, ice cream, and a cold Dr. Pepper.

Lenor was deeply devoted to her family. Her son Eric is known for having a great sense of humor from a young age and could always make her laugh, even as the end got closer. She was proud of all her daughter Niki’s achievements and enjoyed her annual November trips to California to hang out with her grandchildren and watch Christmas movies. At just two years old, her granddaughter lovingly gave her the moniker “Heart” instead of Grandma. The name stayed with her and was embraced by many of her close friends, who also came to call her “Heart.” She even got her first tattoo, a heart, in her early fifties to honor her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Troy Davis Flanders, her mother, Tommie Nell Flanders, and her brother, Johnny Flanders.

She is survived by her two children, Eric Baker of St. Simons Island, GA, and Niki Baker Smith (Josh) of Encino, California; grandchildren, Mackenzie Lenora Baker-Smith, of Hollywood, CA, and Riley B. Smith of Encino, CA; brothers, Troy Flanders, II (Dee) of Thomaston, GA, and Jerry Flanders of Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews.

A service will be announced at a later date. Remembrances may be made in Lenora’s memory to the Lewy body Dementia Association (lbda.org).

Finally, Lenora’s family encourages anyone who lived near Terry Creek to get tested for the chemicals found there, hold the EPA accountable for the cleanup that was projected to have already been completed by now, and become informed about the studies at Emory University regarding the impact of these chemicals to your health.

Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is honored to assist the Baker family.
