Vernon Deleon Johnson, 78, of Kingsland died Monday at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville. Funeral Services were held Thursday at 2 pm at St. Marys United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Thornton officiating. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
The family received friends Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
A native of Bainbridge, Vernon had been a resident of St. Marys and Kingsland since 1959. He had retired from St. Marys Railroad . Vernon had been a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church since 1959.He was owner and operator of The White Pelican in St. Marys and was an avid Camden Wildcats fan.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Johnson of Kingsland; a daughter, Saundra and Milton Readdick of Athens; two sons, Edwin and Angie Johnson of Folkston and Clayton and Trudy Johnson of Waynesville; a brother, Wesley Johnson of New Orleans, Louisiana; seven grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces,nephews and cousins. Vernon is also survived by his beloved and faithful friend "Bootsie".
Arrangements were handled by Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home, Brunswick Georgia.
