Obituary

W. Paul Westbrook, Jr. died on December 6, 2025 in Brunswick, Georgia after a long illness.

Paul was born on May 21, 1934 in Gainesville, Georgia to Ethel Tyner Westbrook and W. Paul Westbrook. Paul was a 1952 graduate of Gainesville High School and attended Emory University, where he was President of Chi Phi Fraternity and led Dooley's Week festivities. After military service, he finished his education at the University of Georgia. His early career in banking brought him and his first wife to Savannah, where their daughters were born. Later in his life, he enjoyed entrepreneurial pursuits and owned various businesses in Savannah before finishing his career at Consumer Credit Counseling, working in both Savannah and Brunswick.

Paul loved animals, particularly his dogs, Muffin and Tib, and, later, the many rescue cats that he and his wife JoAlice gave a loving home. He also loved music, especially classical, gospel, early rock and roll, and country music.

Paul was known for his sonorous, Georgia-accented baritone voice, a dry, self-deprecating wit, and deep repertoire of college fight songs. He used these gifts reading for the visually impaired with Georgia Radio Reading Service, as a voiceover artist promoting economic development and tourism in the Golden Isles, and entertaining his daughters on long car rides.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, JoAlice L. Westbrook of Brunswick, Georgia, and two daughters, Landon Lee Westbrook (Anand A. Gan) of New York City and Anne Allen Westbrook (Todd M. Baiad) of Savannah, Georgia. Additional survivors include his seven grandchildren: Harrison Westbrook Gan, Carter Westbrook Gan, and Leela Westbrook Gan of New York City, William Smith Baiad, Philip Allen Baiad, and Paul Michael Baiad of Savannah, Georgia, and Lilly Madison Wood of Brunswick, Georgia.

A celebration of life for family and friends is planned for the spring in Brunswick, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that remembrances be sent to Castaways Pet Rescue, Inc., 11659 Georgia Hwy 99, Darien, GA 31305.
