Obituary

Dub passed away at home on October 4, 2022 just 7 miles away from the old Brunswick hospital where he was born. He was 72. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard L. Collins, Sr. and Delean Gillis Gross; brother, David Collins; sister, Freda Bennett; and his second wife, Terri Blount Collins. He is survived by his daughter, Georgia Collins; stepdaughter, Karen Doty (Carl); and stepson, Jim Beckum (Keli). Dub played in a band with fellow Glynn Academy classmates called "Rhonda and the Chessmen". He was an accomplished saxophonist and talented guitar player. Music never left his heart. He loved driving around with Georgia singing harmonies. For many years he traveled across the country entertaining children as Santa Claus with his uncanny resemblance and warm nature, even making the front page in Milwaukee in 1992. Later in life he hit his stride as a boat captain where his love of the sea and sailing led him to a career as a first mate on supply ships in the oil field. Dub leaves behind many incredible friends who knew him to be kind, funny, and generous. He will be greatly missed.
