William " Bill " Keltner, 95, of St. Simons Island, passed away November 2, 2017. He was born in 1922 in Tampa Florida. Services will be held at Brunswick Memorial Park Chapel on Tuesday November 7. Family will receive visitors at 1:00 pm with services following at 2:00 pm.
He was a member of the VFW, an active member of the Brunswick Exchange Club for many years and a member of First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island. He is survived by his wife Julia Strickland Keltner and daughters Sherry Auten (Truett), Tina Smith, Gina Knox, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and a special nephew Joe Lipka (Thea).
He joined the Florida National Guard in 1939, was called into Federal Service with the US Army in 1940, and was a WWII Veteran. He completed duties in Africa, Italy, Germany, Brazil, French Guiana, Miami/Tampa/Key West, Florida, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Camp Shelby, Mississippi, and Camp Lee, Louisiana. During his service he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, and Defense Service Medal.
After serving in the Army he became a skilled glass glazier and opened Bill Keltner Glass Company locally. After retiring he continued working with Jacobs Glass, Jones Glass and Lee and Cates Glass.
Bill loved life and was an avid story teller. He had a joke for everyone that crossed his path. He lived by the motto " What ever will be, will be" and made the best with every turn in life's journey.
